THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER II

Last year at this time we reported on the Ant and the Grasshopper.  As you may remember, in our award winning story, Ant spent most of the summer and the fall collecting seeds to store up as food in preparation for the coming winter.  Grasshopper spent his time perched on a windowsill watching reality TV shows through a screen.  When the winds came from the north and the snow fell, Ant ,out of the goodness of his tiny ticker, took pity on Grasshopper and shared his bounty with his lazy friend.

Well, one year has passed and we thought we would check back in on our little friends. First off, did Grasshopper learn his lesson?  ”Yes, I learned my lesson. I can’t live on seeds for four months. Never again. I had to do something. Something that didn’t involve work, of course. All fall I kept seeing those commercials for the twenty dollar dinner in the box from Pizza Hut.  That got me thinking. I jumped into the house when the snow started falling, hopped up on the counter and found a cell phone.  I texted my order to Pizza Hut. I had the box delivered behind the garage. I paid with a twenty spot I found a few years back. I put the bill under a small rock.  Listen, this is a great deal. I mean, I got two mediums, one with pineapple the other pepperoni,  bread sticks and wings. I love that honey barbecue!  When I want to heat it up I just light my little candle and in no time I’m living in Feastville!  I even invited Ant over and he’s a believer.  He gave all his seeds to the family of rolly polly bugs that live by the downspout.  We have so much grub we even invited Frederick a field mouse to come on over.  He’s almost as lazy as me, but he tells the best stories!”

When asked about planning for next winter, Grasshopper enthusiastically replied, “Fourth meal baby!”
